The Global Graduate Leadership Programme
We want to help you become one of our leaders of the future. Providing you with comprehensive leadership training, the programme will give you a broad experience of our whole business. You’ll move across projects, teams and functional areas, locally, regionally and globally through two 12-month assignments. And, as you develop a broad understanding of our business and our products, you’ll be gaining the strategic and global outlook that we need from our future leaders. It’s a chance for you to unleash your full potential.
Applications for our 2017 intake have now closed, but we’ll be opening again in mid-September 2017 to recruit for our 2018 scheme!
- 5th September 2017
- Closing dates vary by region, watch this space for the latest information
Based in your home country, the first year of your programme will see you develop your self-awareness and leadership skills, along with your awareness of Aviva’s core principles. Gaining insight into how our industry works, and developing a deep understanding of our core functions, such as Sales, Strategy and Distribution, you’ll get to grips with our overall strategy and collective purpose. This will give you the foundation of knowledge and experience you need to start becoming a business leader.
You’ll start your second year working in an overseas team in one of our 16 global markets. At this stage you’ll start taking on real responsibility, either in a local market team or a central functional role. You’ll also start enhancing your leadership skills, which could include running your own team or project all under the guidance of a senior mentor.
Where you could work
Both rotations will be one year in length. They could be local, regional or international and are dependent on our business needs, so it’s important that you’re open and willing to rotate into any role or market.
While you’ll have the opportunity to work across any of our 16 global markets in your second year, your first rotation will be based in one of the following cities:
- Asia: Hong Kong, Singapore
- Canada: Toronto
- Europe: Milan, Paris, Warsaw
- UK: Bristol, Eastleigh, London, Norwich, Perth, Sheffield, York
Training and development
Providing our people with the right guidance and training is critically important to the future of our business. As a graduate, you’ll have the opportunity to build on your skills through a combination of face-to-face, e-learning and WebEx training platforms, as well as learning through day-to-day tasks, challenges, practice and networking. Over the course of your programme, we’ll help to grow your leadership skills, and will work with you to develop yourself, lead others, and to grow our business.
Graduates joining the programme will take part in our three-day global welcome event. Our 2016 intake will be attending this event in the UK, and be given a chance to meet our full group of global graduates; gaining a better, shared understanding of what we do and how we do it. From our Digital Garage and St Helen’s offices in London, they will be given an introduction to Aviva, our strategy, markets and business, and we’ll tell them what we’re expecting from them as a graduate. We’ll give an overview of our culture and business etiquette so that they know exactly what to expect. And if there are any questions after that, they’ll have the chance to attend a question and answer session with our Group CEO, Mark Wilson. For graduates applying to join our 2017 intake, you can look forward to a similar induction next year.
Following the global welcome event, graduates will commence their local orientation to focus on more practical day to day information relating to their specific role and to introduce them to their specific market.
We’ll provide you with all the support you need to achieve your potential and set your ambitions free throughout the programme. That means there will always be someone you can go to with any queries you may have, and they’ll also provide you with ongoing feedback which will help you to develop further.
As part of our Senior Mentor Scheme, you’ll be assigned a member of the senior management team to mentor you across both years of your programme. It’s a fantastic opportunity to benefit from the experience of someone truly invested in the business. We don’t believe in hierarchies. The best way to progress is through the sharing of knowledge and an environment that encourages openness.
You’ll also be allocated a buddy and a line manager when you join. Our global mobility team and talent management team will work with you to ensure that you have the right support in place, enabling you to focus on your new role and the new exciting challenges you will experience, whether your rotation is regional, global or local.
Rewards and benefits
We offer rewards and benefits that are both comprehensive and flexible. The benefits may differ from market to market but you'll be able to tailor your rewards so that you can get even more out of working at Aviva. Benefits available could include:
Is the programme right
Friendly. Supportive. Collaborative. Our culture is all of these things and more. And we need people who share these values and are genuinely proud to work here. It’s all part of our plan to become the leader of the industry formed by people truly dedicated to our cause.
We’ve put together a quiz featuring six questions and scenarios that will help you get a sense of whether you and Aviva are a good fit for each other. This will take about 5-7 minutes to complete.
